Hadith 2560

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Keep your livestock and family members inside from sunset until the darkness of ‘Isha’ ends (do not let them go outside)." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: To my knowledge, there has been a scribal error in the wording of this hadith. The original words are "fahmatul ‘isha’" (i.e., when the darkness of ‘Isha’ becomes intense). However, in the hadith, "fahwatul ‘isha’" has been mentioned. Other narrators besides Yusuf bin Musa have narrated the words "fahmah" or "fahwah."
