(23) بَابُ تَوْدِيعِ الْمُسْلِمِ أَخَاهُ عِنْدَ إِرَادَةِ السَّفَرِ23 Subchapter: Bidding farewell to a Muslim brother before travel
Hadith 2531
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الْقَاسِمَ ، يَقُولُ : كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : أَرَدْتُ سَفَرًا ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : انْتَظِرْ حَتَّى أُوَدِّعَكَ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوَدِّعُنَا : " اسْتَوْدِعِ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ ، وَأَمَانَتَكَ ، وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ "
Hazrat Qasim narrates that I was with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) when a man came and said that he was going on a journey. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Wait a little so that I may bid you farewell in the same way that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to bid us farewell with this supplication « أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ »: 'I entrust your religion, your trustworthiness, and the end of your deeds to Allah.'"
