(183) بَابُ الصَّدَقَةِ عَنِ الْمَيِّتِ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَصِيَّةٍ مِنْ مَالِ الْمَيِّتِ، وَتَكْفِيرِ ذُنُوبِ الْمَيِّتِ بِهَا183 Subchapter: Charity for the deceased without a will, and expiation of his sins
Hadith 2498
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلاءُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ أَبِي مَاتَ ، وَتَرَكَ مَالا ، وَلَمْ يُوصِ ، فَهَلْ يُكَفَّرُ عَنْهُ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَ : " نَعَمْ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "My father has passed away and has left behind some wealth, but he did not make any will. If I give charity on his behalf, will it be an expiation for his sins?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes."
