Hadith 2490
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَرْزُوقُ بْنُ الْهُذَيْلِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَغَرُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ مِمَّا يَلْحَقُ الْمُؤْمِنُ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ وَحَسَنَاتِهِ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهِ : عِلْمًا عَلِمَهُ وَنَشَرَهُ ، أَوْ وَلَدًا صَالِحًا تَرَكَهُ ، أَوْ مَسْجِدًا بَنَاهُ ، أَوْ بَيْتًا لابْنِ السَّبِيلِ بَنَاهُ ، أَوْ نَهَرًا كَرَاهُ ، أَوْ صَدَقَةً أَخْرَجَهَا مِنْ مَالِهِ فِي صِحَّتِهِ وَحَيَاتِهِ ، تَلْحَقُهُ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَوْتِهِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : كَرَاهُ : يَعْنِي حَفَرَهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, after his death, a believer continues to receive the reward of his deeds and good works. These are: the knowledge which he taught to others and took part in spreading; or he left behind righteous children; or he built a mosque; or he built a lodging for travelers; or he had a canal dug; or he gave any charity from his wealth during his health and lifetime—then the reward of these will continue to reach him after his death." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the meaning of اْونَهْراً كَرَاهُ is "or he had a canal dug."
