(164) بَابُ الْأَمْرِ بِإِعْطَاءِ السَّائِلِ وَإِنْ قَلَّتِ الْعَطِيَّةُ وَصَغُرَتْ قِيمَتُهَا،164 Subchapter: Command to give to the beggar even if the gift is small
Hadith 2472
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ بُجَيْدٍ ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، السَّائِلُ يَأْتِينِي ، وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي مَا أُعْطِيهِ ، قَالَ : " لا تَرُدِّي سَائِلَكِ لَوْ بِظِلْفٍ " ، لَمْ يَقُلِ الأَشَجُّ : مَا أُعْطِيهِ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ : ابْنُ بُجَيْدٍ هَذَا هُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بُجَيْدِ بْنِ قِبْطِيٍّ
Ibn Bajid narrates from his grandmother. She says: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, sometimes a beggar comes to me and I have nothing to give him (so what should I do)?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do not send the beggar away (empty-handed), even if it is just a single date, give him that." The narrator Ashaj did not mention the words "ma u‘tiyhi" (what I give him). Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Ibn Bajid refers to Abdur Rahman bin Bajid bin Qibti.
