Hazrat Yazid bin Abi Habib narrates from Mirthad bin Abdullah Mazni (may Allah have mercy on him) that he was the first among the people of Egypt to go to the mosque. And whenever I saw him entering the mosque, he always had some cash, bread, or wheat in his sleeve to give as charity, until sometimes I saw that he would even bring onions for charity. So I said, "O Abu al-Khair, onions make your clothes smell bad." He replied, "O Ibn Habib, there was nothing else in my house to give as charity except this (so I brought it)." While a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, the shade of the believer will be his charity."
