Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ghusl (ritual bath) after janabah, he would pour water from the vessel onto his right hand and wash it, then pour water onto his left hand and wash his private parts, and then perform wudu (ablution) as he would for prayer. Then he would put his hand into the vessel and (taking water) run his hand through his hair in such a way, and with his hand he would part his hair, until when he felt that the water had reached his scalp, he would pour three handfuls of water on his head and leave some water in the vessel, which he would pour over himself after finishing.
