Hadith 227

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the (Companions) were sitting and they discussed the matter that makes ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory. Among those present, a Muhajir Companion said that when the circumcised part (private part) meets the circumcised part, then ghusl becomes obligatory. Among those present, an Ansari Companion said, "No, not until (semen) comes out forcefully with gush." (Upon hearing this discussion) Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I will bring you information about this." He went to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), greeted her with salam, and then said, "I want to ask you about something, but I feel shy about it." Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Do not be shy to ask about something which you could ask your real mother who gave birth to you. Indeed, I am also your mother." He said, "I asked, 'What makes ghusl obligatory?'" She replied, "You have come to someone knowledgeable (aware and familiar with the issue). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'When a man sits between the four parts of a woman and the circumcised part meets the circumcised part, then ghusl becomes obligatory.'"
