Lady Umm Salamah bint Abi Umayyah bin Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when we (migrated and) reached the land of Abyssinia, we settled in its outskirts. When the Negus came... then the complete hadith was narrated. In the hadith, these words are mentioned that Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Sayyiduna Ja’far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke to the Negus. He said to the Negus, “O King, we were an ignorant people. We used to worship idols and eat carrion. We used to commit acts of indecency, sever ties of kinship, oppress our neighbors, and the strong among us would consume the weak. We lived in such conditions until Allah Almighty sent to us a Messenger whose lineage, truthfulness, trustworthiness, and chastity we well knew. He called us to the oneness of Allah Almighty, that we worship Him alone and abandon the worship of stones and idols which we and our forefathers used to worship. He commanded us to speak the truth, fulfill trusts, maintain ties of kinship, treat neighbors kindly, and refrain from unlawful consumption and bloodshed. He forbade us from acts of indecency, false speech, consuming the wealth of orphans, and slandering chaste women. He commanded us to worship Allah alone and not associate anything with Him, and he commanded us to perform prayer, give zakat, and fast.” Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says, “So Sayyiduna Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him) informed the Negus of the teachings and guidance of Islam, so we affirmed him and brought faith in him, and we followed those teachings which he brought from Allah Almighty. Therefore, we worshipped Allah alone and did not associate anything with Him, and we made unlawful for ourselves those things which were made unlawful for us, and made lawful for ourselves those things which were made lawful for us.” Then the rest of the hadith was narrated.
