Hadith 2224
حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ ، حَدَّثَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَادَ الاعْتِكَافَ ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْهُ عَائِشَةُ لِتَعْتَكِفَ مَعَهُ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَتْهُ زَيْنَبُ مَعَهُ ، فَأَذِنَتْ لَهَا ، فَضَرَبَتْ خِبَاءَهَا ، فَسَأَلَتْهَا حَفْصَةُ تَسْتَأْذِنُ لَهَا لِتَعْتَكِفَ مَعَهُ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَتْهُ زَيْنَبُ ضَرَبَتْ مَعَهُنَّ ، وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً غَيُورًا ، فَرَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبِيَتَهُنَّ . فَقَالَ : " مَا هَذَا ؟ الْبِرَّ يُرِدْنَ بِهَذَا ؟ " فَتَرَكَ الاعْتِكَافَ حَتَّى أَفْطَرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ، ثُمَّ اعْتَكَفَ فِي عَشْرٍ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to perform i'tikaf, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) also sought permission to perform i'tikaf with him. When Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) saw Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), she also granted her permission, so she set up her tent. Then Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) asked Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to request permission from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for her as well, so that she could also perform i'tikaf with him. When Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) saw this situation, she also set up her tent with them, and she was a very jealous woman. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw their tents set up, he said: "What is this? Do they seek to attain virtue through this?" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left the i'tikaf until Ramadan ended, and then he performed i'tikaf for ten days in Shawwal.
