Hadith 2169

Hazrat Marthad or Abu Marthad narrates from his father that we met Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was near the middle Jamrah. So I asked him about Laylat al-Qadr. He said: No one questioned the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about Laylat al-Qadr more than I did. I asked: O Messenger of Allah, was revelation about Laylat al-Qadr sent down to the noble Prophets, and then (after the Prophets departed, Laylat al-Qadr also) went away? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “Rather, Laylat al-Qadr will remain until the Day of Resurrection.” I asked: O Messenger of Allah, which night is it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If I had been permitted, I would have surely informed you. But seek it in the seven nights, and do not ask about it after today.” He says: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the people and began to address them, so I asked: O Messenger of Allah, which are those seven nights? So he became so angry with me that he had never been so angry before nor after. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Did I not forbid you from asking about it? If I had been permitted, I would have surely informed you, I would have surely given you its news. But I hope that it will be in the last seven nights.”
