It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Saifi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he states: On the day of Ashura, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and said: "Have you fasted today?" Some said, "Yes, we have fasted." And some individuals said, "No, we have not." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then complete the fast for the rest of this day." And he instructed them: "Inform the villages located in the outskirts of Madinah as well, that they should complete the fast for the rest of the day."
