Hadith 2071
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ , حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ , حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ الْقَعْقَاعِ , عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَذْكُرُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ " . قَالَهَا ثَلاثًا . قَالُوا : فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " لَسْتُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلِي , إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِي , فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ "
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Refrain from wisal (continuous fasting without breaking the fast at sunset)." He said this three times. The Companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), you also observe wisal?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "You are not like me in this matter. Indeed, I spend the night in such a state that my Lord feeds me and gives me drink. So, bear only as much (deeds) as you have the strength for."
