Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting, he would not perform prayer until we brought him water and fresh (moist) dates, and he had eaten them and drunk the water—when fresh dates were available. But in winter, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not perform prayer until we brought him dry dates and water (and he had broken his fast).
