Hadith 2031

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the place of Marr az-Zahran when food was brought, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Come close and eat the food." They said, "We are fasting." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have done the necessary work for your companions and prepared their mounts. Both of you come close and eat the food." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that this narration is also of the same type as I have mentioned earlier, that it is permissible for a fasting person to break the fast during the day while traveling, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to eat when they had informed him that they were fasting.
