جماع أبواب المسح على الخفينChapters on Wiping over Leather Socks
(154) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ مَسْحَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ كَانَ فِي وُضُوءٍ مُتَطَوِّعٍ بِهِ، لَا فِي وُضُوءٍ وَاجِبٍ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حَدَثٍ يُوجِبُ الْوُضُوءَ.Chapter 154: Evidence that the Prophet’s wiping over sandals was in voluntary ablution, not obligatory
Hadith 200
نا أَبُو يَحْيَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ الْبَزَّازُ ، نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي اللَّيْثِ ، نا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَشْجَعِيُّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، " أَنَّهُ دَعَا بِكُوزٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءًا خَفِيفًا ، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " هَكَذَا وُضُوءُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِلطَّاهِرِ مَا لَمْ يُحْدِثْ "
Ubaid Khair narrates from our master Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked for a vessel of water, then performed a light ablution with it, then wiped over his shoes, then said: The ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a person who is pure (in a state of ablution) was like this, as long as his ablution is not broken.
