Sayyiduna Abu Umamah Bahili Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: “While I was asleep, two came to me, they took hold of my arms and brought me to a mountain that was difficult to climb and steep. Both of them said to me, ‘Climb up.’ I said, ‘I cannot climb it.’ They said, ‘We will make it easy for you.’ So I climbed up until, when I reached the top of the mountain, there were very painful cries. I asked, ‘What are these cries?’ They replied, ‘These are the screams of the people of Hell.’ Then they took me on (further), and suddenly I saw people who were hanging by their hamstrings. Their jaws were torn and blood was flowing from them. I asked, ‘Who are these people?’ They replied, ‘These are the ones who used to break their fast before the time of iftar.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘The Jews and Christians were destroyed.’” Janab Sulaiman bin Amir says, “I do not know whether Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) heard these words from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or if this is his own opinion.”

Then you went on and reached people who were greatly swollen, their stench was extremely foul and their appearance was very painful. I asked, ‘Who are these?’ They replied, ‘These are the slain among the disbelievers.’ Then I was taken to a people whose bodies were severely swollen and their stench was as foul and filthy as excrement. I asked, ‘Who are these?’ They replied, ‘These are the adulterous men and adulterous women.’ Then I was taken and suddenly there were some women whose breasts were being bitten by snakes. I asked, ‘What happened to them? (For what crime are they being punished?)’ They replied, ‘These are the women who did not breastfeed their children.’ Then I was taken and suddenly I saw some children playing between two rivers. I asked, ‘Who are these?’ They replied, ‘These are the children of the believers.’ Then I went to a height and saw three people drinking their wine. I asked, ‘Who are these people?’ They replied, ‘These are Sayyiduna Ja’far, Zayd, and Ibn Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with them).’ Then I climbed to another high place and there too I saw three individuals. I asked, ‘Who are these?’ They replied, ‘These are Ibrahim, Musa, and Isa (peace be upon them),’ while they were looking at me. This is the narration of Janab Rabi’.
