Hadith 1879

Hazrat Abu Hamzah Duba'i narrates that I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "I have a jug in which I prepare nabidh, then I drink from it. Then, when I sit with people for a long time, I fear that I might be disgraced because of its intoxication and sweetness." So he said, "The delegation of Abdul Qais came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: 'Welcome to the delegation! You have come very well, without disgrace and without shame.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, indeed there are the polytheists of the tribe of Mudar between us and you, and we can only come to you during the sacred months. Therefore, tell us such Islamic deeds by which, if we act upon them, we will enter Paradise and invite those we leave behind to them.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'I command you to do four things and forbid you from four things.' (The deeds I command you to do are these:) To have faith in Allah. Do you know what faith in Allah is?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To testify that there is no god but Allah, to establish prayer, to pay zakat, to fast in the blessed month of Ramadan, and to give one-fifth of the spoils of war. And I forbid you from making nabidh in pumpkin vessels, hollowed-out wooden vessels, green glazed jugs, and oily vessels."
