Hadith 1800
نا أَبُو زُهَيْرٍ عَبْدُ الْمَجِيدِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، نا الْمُقْرِئُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلالٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي رِفَاعَةَ الْعَدَوِيِّ ، قَالَ : " انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , رَجُلٌ غَرِيبٌ جَاءَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ دِينِهِ , لا يَدْرِي مَا دِينُهُ ؟ فَأَقْبَلَ إِلَيَّ وَتَرَكَ خُطْبَتَهُ , فَأُتِيَ بِكُرْسِيٍّ خَلَتْ قَوَائِمُهُ حَدِيدًا , قَالَ حُمَيْدٌ : أُرَاهُ رَأَى خَشَبًا أَسْوَدَ حَسِبَهُ حَدِيدًا , فَجَعَلَ يُعَلِّمُنِي مِمَّا عَلَّمَهُ اللَّهُ , ثُمَّ أَتَى خُطْبَتَهُ وَأَتَمَّ آخِرَهَا "
Sayyiduna Abu Rifa’ah ‘Adawi رضي الله عنه narrates that I reached the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم while he was delivering a sermon. So I said, “O Messenger of Allah, a stranger has come to ask about his religion, he does not know what his religion is.” So the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم turned towards me and left his sermon. Then a chair was brought to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم — I think its legs were made of iron. Humaid says: I think he saw the legs as black pieces, so he thought they were iron. Then the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم began to teach me the knowledge that Allah Almighty had taught him. Then the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم resumed his sermon and completed the rest of it.
