(140) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ الْأَمْرَ بِالْبَدْءِ بِالْميَامِنِ فِي الْوُضُوءِ أَمْرُ اسْتِحْبَابٍ وَاخْتِيَارٍ، لَا أَمْرُ فَرْضٍ وَإِيجَابٍ.Chapter 140: Evidence that starting with the right side in ablution is recommended, not obligatory
Hadith 179
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ ، نا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ ، نا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ الأَشْعَثُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سُلَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِي اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يُحِبُّ التَّيَامُنَ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ فِي طُهُورِهِ وَنَعْلِهِ وَتَرَجُّلِهِ " ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُ الأَشْعَثَ بِوَاسِطَ ، يَقُولُ : " يُحِبُّ التَّيَامُنَ ذَكَرَ شَأْنَهُ كُلَّهُ " ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ بِالْكُوفَةِ ، يَقُولُ : " يُحِبُّ التَّيَامُنَ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ "
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liked to begin with the right side as much as possible when performing ablution, putting on shoes, and combing his hair. Shu’bah says: Then I heard Ash’ath narrate in Wasit that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked to begin with the right side in all his affairs. Then I heard him in Kufa saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked the right side as much as possible.
