Hadith 1748
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ الْيَمَامِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ بَكْرٍ ، نا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِذْ دَخَلَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ , فَعَرَّضَ بِهِ , فَقَالَ : مَا بَالُ رِجَالٍ يَتَأَخَّرُونَ بَعْدَ النِّدَاءِ ؟ ! قَالَ عُثْمَانُ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، مَا زِدْتُ حِينَ سَمِعْتُ النِّدَاءَ أَنْ تَوَضَّأْتُ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلْتُ . قَالَ : الْوُضُوءُ أَيْضًا ؟ أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ " ؟ . فِي خَبَرِ الْوَلِيدِ : يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ . وَلَمْ يَقُلْ : يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that while Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was addressing the people on Friday, Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) entered (the mosque), so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) alluded to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "What is the matter with people that they come late after the adhan?" So Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: "O Commander of the Faithful, when I heard the adhan, I only performed wudu (ablution) (and did nothing else), then I came to the mosque." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You came only after performing wudu? Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When any one of you comes for Jumu'ah, he should perform ghusl (ritual bath).'" In the narration of Janab Waleed, it is mentioned that he was addressing the people, but the words "on Friday" are not mentioned.
