Imam Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him, after mentioning the chain of narration of Dawud bin Abi Hind, states that in this narration, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has mentioned using the miswak and applying perfume together with the command to perform ghusl on Friday. In this way, the Prophet (peace be upon him) has clarified that all three of these things are obligatory upon every adult. Miswak is a means of cleaning and purifying the mouth, and perfume is a means of removing unpleasant odors from the body and making it fragrant and pure. And we have not heard any Muslim say that using miswak and applying perfume on Friday is obligatory. And the command of ghusl is similar to these two. In other chapters, clear evidence will be cited to show that performing ghusl on Friday is not so obligatory that nothing else (such as wudu, etc.) would suffice without it.
