Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when we used to pray behind the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), one of us would gesture with his hand towards his brother on his right and left side (while turning for salam). Then when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "What is the matter that one of you gestures like this as if they are the tails of rebellious horses? Surely, it is sufficient for one of you, or (he said) is it not sufficient for one of you to do like this," and the Prophet (peace be upon him) placed his blessed hand on his right thigh and gestured with his finger, "then he should say salam to the one on his right and left side."
