(162) بَابُ ذِكْرِ مَا خَصَّ اللَّهُ بِهِ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ تَرْكِ أَكْلِ الثُّومِ، وَالْبَصَلِ، وَالْكُرَّاثِ مَطْبُوخًا.162| Chapter on what Allah made specific to His Prophet of abstaining from eating cooked garlic, onions, and leeks
Hadith 1670
نا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ ، أَنَّ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ بِطَعَامٍ مِنْ خَضِرَةٍ فِيهِ بَصَلٌ أَوْ كُرَّاثٌ ، فَلَمْ يَرَ فِيهِ أَثَرَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ ؟ " ، فَقَالَ : لَمْ أَرَ أَثَرَكَ فِيهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَسْتَحِي مِنْ مَلائِكَةِ اللَّهِ ، وَلَيْسَ بِمُحَرَّمٍ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that a vegetable stew was sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in which there was onion or leek. When Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) did not see any sign of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) eating from it, he also refused to eat it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What prevented you from eating this food?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I did not see any sign of you eating it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(I did not eat it because) I feel shy before the angels of Allah (lest they perceive its odor), and it is not forbidden."
