Hazrat Mahmood bin Rabee’ narrates that Sayyiduna ‘Itbaan bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and among the Ansar who had the honor of participating in the Battle of Badr, came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, my eyesight has become weak and I lead my people in prayer. So when the rainy season comes, a valley flows between me and them. Therefore, I cannot go to their mosque to lead them in prayer. For this reason, I wish, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that you come and perform prayer in my house so that I may make that place my prayer area.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I will soon fulfill (your wish), insha’Allah.” Sayyiduna ‘Itbaan bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The next day, after the sun had risen, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sought permission, so I granted him permission (welcomed him). He entered the house without sitting outside, then asked: “In which part of your house do you wish me to pray?” He says: I pointed to a corner of the house. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood there and said the takbeer. We also stood behind him and formed a row, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak‘ahs and then gave salam. Then we seated the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for you for khazeer (a special dish made of meat and flour). He says: (During this time) people from the neighborhood kept coming until a large number of people gathered in our house. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Where is Malik bin Dukhshum?” A man replied: He is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah and His Messenger (so he did not come on your arrival). Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not say such about him. Do you not know that he professes « لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله » for the sake of Allah’s pleasure?” That man said: Allah and His Messenger know best. We only see his association and sincere friendship and love with the hypocrites. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah has made the Fire forbidden for the person who sincerely professes « لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله » for the sake of Allah’s pleasure.” Imam Muhammad Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Husayn bin Muhammad Ansari, who is a chief of Banu Salim, about the hadith of Hazrat Mahmood bin Rabee’, and he confirmed it.”
