It is narrated from Nazzal bin Sabrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he presented himself before Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He performed the Zuhr prayer and then sat in the courtyard to address the needs and issues of the people. When the time for Asr arrived, he asked for a water vessel and wiped his hands, face, head, and feet with it (i.e., instead of thoroughly washing, he performed a light ablution). Then he stood up and drank the remaining water. Then he said: Some people dislike drinking water while standing, but indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did just as I have done. And he said: "This is the ablution of a person whose ablution has not been broken."
In another narration from Nazzal bin Samrah (may Allah have mercy on him), these words are mentioned: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do just as I have done, and he said: "This is the ablution of a person whose ablution has not been broken."
In a third narration from Nazzal, it is only mentioned: "This is the ablution of a person whose ablution has not been broken."
