(51) بَابُ قِيَامِ الِاثْنَيْنِ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ51| Two people standing behind the imam
Hadith 1535
نا بُنْدَارٌ ، نا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي الْحَنَفِيَّ ، نا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنِي شُرَحْبِيلُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَعْدٍ أَبُو سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الْمَغْرِبَ ، فَجِئْتُهُ فَقُمْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ، فَنَهَانِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ صَاحِبٌ لِي ، فَصَفَفْنَا خَلْفَهُ ، فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ مُخَالِفًا بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ "
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up to pray Maghrib prayer. I came to him and stood on his left side. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stopped me and made me stand on his right side. Then another companion of mine came, so we formed a row behind the Prophet (peace be upon him). Thus, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in prayer in a single garment, and he had placed the edges of that garment in the opposite direction (i.e., the right edge on the left side and the left edge on the right side).
