Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that there was an Ansari man whose house in Madinah Munawwarah was farther than all other houses. Despite this, he never missed the congregational prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I felt great pity for him (because he endured so much hardship). I said to him, "O so-and-so, if you buy a donkey, it will protect you from the heat, save you from being injured by stones, and protect you from the earth's poisonous creatures (then this would be a very good thing)." He replied, "By Allah, I do not like that my house should be adjacent to the house of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) says that this matter weighed heavily on me, until I went to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him and asked him about it, and he gave the same reply to the Prophet as well. He also explained that he hoped for reward from Allah for this action. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Indeed, you will be rewarded according to your intention." In the narration of San'ani, it is mentioned: "I informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he asked him about it. He replied, 'O Messenger of Allah, (I do this) so that the traces of my footsteps may be recorded, and my returning to my family and my coming (to the mosque) may be recorded,' or as he said. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Allah will grant you all of this, and whatever you intended, Allah will grant you all of that as well,'" or as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
