Hadith 146

Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah narrates from his respected father, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you wakes up from his sleep, he should not put his hand into a vessel until he has washed it three times, for he does not know where his hand spent the night or where it moved about." So a person asked (Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both), "What is your opinion regarding the reservoir?" Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) threw a pebble at him and said, "I narrate to you (a hadith) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you ask me what is my opinion regarding the reservoir?" Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "When Ibn Lahi'ah narrates alone, he is not among those narrators whose narrations have been taken out from this book." This (hadith of Ibn Lahi'ah) has been mentioned because in its chain is also Jabir bin Isma'il.
