Sayyiduna Abu Hazim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me while he was delivering the sermon. He (peace be upon him) instructed me, so I moved towards a shaded place. And in the narration of Ubaydullah bin Bishr, it is mentioned that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while delivering the sermon, said to the one who came late: "(Wherever you find a place) sit down, you have caused inconvenience to people and have also come late." And in the narration of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), it is mentioned that if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) needed to dispatch an army or had any other need, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would inform the people. And if there was any (financial) need, he would instruct them, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "Give charity." In the narration of Ibn 'Ajlan from 'Iyad (may Allah have mercy on him) from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), it is mentioned that on the day of Jumu'ah, during the sermon, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the one who entered (the mosque): "Have you prayed (the greeting of the mosque)?" He replied, "No." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stand up and pray two rak'ahs." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people: "Give charity." And in the narrations of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), in the story of Sayyiduna Sulaik (may Allah be pleased with him), it is mentioned that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Have you prayed (the greeting of the mosque)?" He replied, "No." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stand up and pray two rak'ahs." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you comes (to the mosque) on the day of Jumu'ah while the Imam is delivering the sermon, he should pray two rak'ahs and then sit down." All these narrations are evidence that the sermon is not like the prayer. And it is permissible for the preacher to command good, forbid evil, discuss the needs of the Muslims, and teach them their religious matters during the sermon.
