Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the Friday sermon when people stood up towards him and began to loudly say, "O Messenger of Allah, there is a severe shortage of rain. The trees have turned red (dried up) and the animals are dying. Pray to Allah, the Exalted, that He may grant us rain." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed « اللَٰهُمَّ اسْقِنَا ، اللَٰهُمَّ اسْقِنَا » "O Allah, quench us with rain. O Allah, give us water to drink." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "By Allah, there was not a single patch of cloud visible in the sky when suddenly a small cloud appeared and spread across the entire sky. Then it rained. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the pulpit, led the prayer, and went (home). It continued to rain until the next Friday. Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver the sermon, people loudly said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the houses have collapsed and the roads are blocked. Pray to Allah, the Exalted, that He may withhold the rain from us.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and prayed « اللَٰهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلاَ عَلَيْنَا » 'O Allah, let it rain around us, not upon us.' Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says, 'The clouds cleared from over Madinah, and it rained around Madinah, while not a single drop fell in Madinah itself. I looked towards Madinah and it was shining like a crown (and around it, raindrops were falling like pearls).'
