(659) بَابُ التَّوَاضُعِ وَالتَّبَذُّلِ وَالتَّخَشُّعِ وَالتَّضَرُّعِ عِنْدَ الْخُرُوجِ إِلَى الِاسْتِسْقَاءِ.659| Humility, simplicity, and devotion when going out for rain prayer
Hadith 1405
حَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ ، نَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كِنَانَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : أَرْسَلَنِي أَمِيرٌ مِنَ الأُمَرَاءِ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الاسْتِسْقَاءِ ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : مَا يَمْنَعُهُ أَنْ يَسْأَلَنِي ؟ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " مُتَوَاضِعًا ، مُتَبَذِّلا ، مُتَخَشِّعًا ، مُتَضَرِّعًا ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ كَمَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدِ ، وَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خُطْبَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ "
Ishaq bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that one of the leaders among the rulers sent me to serve Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) so that I could ask him about the prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa). So Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "Why did he not ask me himself? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would go out with humility, wearing simple clothes, displaying humility and submissiveness, and expressing helplessness and need. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak'ahs like the Eid prayer, and he did not deliver a sermon like your sermon."
