It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) was struck by an arrow in the median vein (during the Battle of the Trench) and was severely wounded. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a tent pitched for him in the mosque so that he could be close by to tend to him. The narrator says that his wound began to heal. Then he supplicated to Allah Almighty, “O Allah, You well know that nothing is more beloved to me than that I fight in Your cause against those people who denied Your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), expelled him (from Makkah Mukarramah), and inflicted various kinds of harm upon him. I think that You have ended the war between us and them. Therefore, make my wound flow so that my death (martyrdom) may occur because of this wound.” The narrator says that he was in this state when one night his wound burst open, and so much blood flowed from it that it entered the tent of other people. So they called out and asked, “O people of the tent, what is this thing coming from your side into our tent?” When they looked, they saw that the chest of Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) had burst open due to the wound, and his blood was gushing out with a loud sound.
