جماع أبواب صلاة التطوع بالليلChapters on Night Voluntary Prayers
(518) بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ الصَّلَاةِ وَكَثْرَتِهَا وَطُولِ الْقِيَامِ فِيهَا يَشْكُرُ اللَّهَ لِمَا يُولِي الْعَبْدَ مِنْ نِعْمَتِهِ وَإِحْسَانِهِThe chapter on the recommendation to pray often and at length in gratitude for Allah's blessings
Hadith 1182
ثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلاقَةَ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى انْتَفَخَتْ قَدَمَاهُ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : تَكَلَّفُ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَقَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ ؟ قَالَ : " أَفَلا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا "
Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed (so many voluntary) prayers that his blessed feet became swollen. It was said to him, “O Messenger of Allah, you are enduring this hardship and difficulty even though your past and future sins have been forgiven?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “Should I not be a grateful servant?”
