Hadith 1160
نَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي قَيْسٍ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَائِشَةَ : كَيْفَ كَانَتْ قِرَاءَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، أَكَانَ يُجْهَرُ أَمْ يُسِرُّ ؟ قَالَتْ : " كُلُّ ذَلِكَ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ ، رُبَّمَا جَهْرَ وَرُبَّمَا أَسَرَّ " . فَزَادَ بَحْرٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الأَمْرِ سَعَةً "
Abdullah bin Abi Qais reports that he asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the manner of recitation in the Tahajjud prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): did he recite aloud or quietly? She replied that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite in both ways; sometimes he would recite aloud and sometimes quietly. Bahr bin Nasr, in his narration, added these words: So I said, all praise is due to Allah who has kept flexibility and allowance in this matter.
