(501) بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ مَسْأَلَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْهِدَايَةَ لِمَا اخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ عِنْدَ افْتِتَاحِ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِThe chapter on the recommendation to ask Allah for guidance in disputed matters at the start of night prayer
Hadith 1153
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يُونُسَ ، نَا عِكْرِمَةُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ : بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْتَتِحُ صَلاتَهُ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ افْتَتَحَ صَلاتَهُ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ جَبْرَائِيلَ ، وَمِيكَائِيلَ ، وَإِسْرَافِيلَ ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ، عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ، أَنْتَ تَحْكُمُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ ، اهْدِنِي لِمَا اخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ ، فَإِنَّكَ تَهْدِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ "
Hazrat Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I asked Ummul Momineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for the night prayer, with which supplication would he begin his prayer?" She replied, "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for the night prayer, he would begin his prayer with this supplication: « اللّهُـمَّ رَبَّ جِـبْرائيل ، وَميكـائيل ، وَإِسْـرافيل، فاطِـرَ السَّمواتِ وَالأَرْض ، عالـِمَ الغَيْـبِ وَالشَّهـادَةِ أَنْـتَ تَحْـكمُ بَيْـنَ عِبـادِكَ فيـما كانوا فيهِ يَخْتَلِفـون. إِهدِنـي لِمـا اخْتُـلِفَ فيـهِ مِنَ الْحَـقِّ بِإِذْنِك ، إِنَّـكَ تَهْـدي مَنْ تَشـاءُ إِلى صِراطٍ مُسْتَقـيم » . O Allah, Lord of Jibreel, Mikaeel, and Israfeel, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You judge between Your servants concerning that wherein they differ. Guide me, by Your permission, in the disputed matters of truth, for surely You guide whom You will to the straight path."
