(446) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الْأَخْبَارِ الْمَنْصُوصَةِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ الْوِتْرَ رَكْعَةٌThe chapter on explicit reports from the Prophet that Witr is one unit
Hadith 1073
نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لابْنِ عُمَرَ : أَرَأَيْتَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ صَلاةِ الْغَدَاةِ ، أُطِيلُ فِيهِمَا الْقِرَاءَةَ ؟ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَيُوتِرُ بِرَكْعَةٍ "
Anas bin Sirin narrates that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the two rak‘ahs before the Fajr prayer, whether I should recite long (Qira’ah) in them? He replied that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to perform the night prayer in sets of two rak‘ahs and would offer one rak‘ah as Witr.
