Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "The night prayer is in sets of two rak‘ahs, then when you fear that morning is near, perform one rak‘ah as witr." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I have mentioned the chains of narration for these reports in this issue, which I dictated in refutation of the one who thinks that it is not permissible to perform one rak‘ah of witr, except for the person who fears that morning will come. And I have explained at this place, from which the ignorance of the one making this claim has become clear to people of understanding and discernment.
