It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: (Once) we were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). When the time for prayer came, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do the people have any water?" Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that a man brought the remaining water in a vessel. He says that the man poured that water into a bowl and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed ablution. He says that then people came to take the remaining water, so the man said: Perform masah (wiping) with it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) placed his blessed hand in the middle of the water in the bowl, then said: "Perform complete ablution." Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: By Him who took away my eyesight—the narrator says that his eyesight had gone—I saw water gushing from between the fingers of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not lift his blessed hand (at that time) until all the people had performed ablution. Ubaidah says that Aswad said: I think he also said that we were two hundred or more people.
