Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah
(412) بَابُ أَمْرِ الصِّبْيَانِ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَضَرْبِهِمْ عَلَى تَرْكِهَا قَبْلَ الْبُلُوغِ كَيْ يَعْتَادُوا بِهَا412 Chapter: Command to Instruct Children to Pray and to Discipline Them for Neglecting It before Puberty So They Become Accustomed.
Hadith 1002
نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، وَعَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، وَابْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثُ عَلِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " عَلِّمُوا الصَّبِيَّ الصَّلاةَ ابْنَ سَبْعِ سِنِينَ ، وَاضْرِبُوهُ عَلَيْهَا ابْنَ عَشْرٍ "
Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Rabee narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Teach the child to pray at the age of seven, and at the age of ten (if he does not pray) discipline him (by beating)."
