It is narrated from Yahya bin Ya’mar, he says: I asked Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), “O Abu Abdur Rahman, some people believe that there is no such thing as destiny (taqdeer).” He asked, “Are any of those people present among us (in this era)?” I said, “Yes, (they are present).” He said, “When you meet them, convey this message from me: Ibn Umar disassociates himself from you for the sake of Allah Almighty, and you are disassociated from him.” Then he said: “Abu Hafs Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me that while we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) along with some people, suddenly a man came. There were signs of travel on him and he was not a resident of the city. He came walking briskly and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He asked, ‘O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), what is Islam?’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: ‘Islam is that you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, you establish prayer, pay zakat, perform Hajj of the House of Allah, perform Umrah, perform ghusl after major impurity, perform complete ablution, and fast in the blessed month of Ramadan.’ He said, ‘If I perform these (obligations), am I a Muslim?’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Yes (by performing these obligations you will become a Muslim).’ He said, ‘You have spoken the truth.’ He (Ibn Umar) narrated the complete hadith regarding the questions about faith (iman), excellence (ihsan), and the Day of Judgment.”
