أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ بِالرَّقَّةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَكِيلُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدَانُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الْجُهَنِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُجَاهِدٍ الطَّائِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحِلُّ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَاءَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلانِ يَشْكُو أَحَدُهُمَا الْعَيْلَةَ ، وَيَشْكُو الآخَرُ قَطْعَ السَّبِيلِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَّا قَطْعُ السَّبِيلِ : فَلا يَأْتِي عَلَيْكَ إِلا قَلِيلٌ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ الْعِيرُ مِنَ الْحِيرَةِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ بِغَيْرِ خَفِيرٍ ، وَأَمَّا الْعَيْلَةُ : فَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لا تَقُومُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ الرَّجُلُ بِصَدَقَةِ مَالِهِ ، فَلا يَجِدُ مَنْ يَقْبَلُهَا مِنْهُ ، ثُمَّ لَيَقِفَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ حِجَابٌ يَحْجُبُهُ ، وَلا تُرْجُمَانٌ يُتَرْجِمُ لَهُ ، فَيَقُولَنَّ لَهُ : أَلَمْ أُوتِكَ مَالا ؟ فَلَيَقُولَنَّ : بَلَى ، فَيَقُولُ : أَلَمْ أُرْسِلْ إِلَيْكَ رَسُولا ؟ فَلَيَقُولَنَّ : بَلَى ، ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، فَلا يَرَى إِلا النَّارَ ، ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ ، فَلا يَرَى إِلا النَّارَ ، فَلْيَتَّقِ أَحَدُكُمُ النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ " .
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Two men came to him. One of them complained of poverty and the other complained of banditry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As for banditry, soon there will come a time upon you when a caravan will depart from Hira and reach Makkah and it will have nothing to fear. As for poverty, the Hour will not be established until a person will go out with his zakat and will not find anyone to accept it from him. Each one of you will be made to stand before Allah; there will be no veil between him and Allah to prevent him, nor any interpreter between them. Then the Lord will say to him: Did I not give you wealth? He will reply: Yes. The Lord will say: Did I not send a messenger to you? He will reply: Yes. Then the person will look to his right and will see nothing but Hellfire, and he will look to his left and will see nothing but Hellfire. So each one of you should try to save himself from the Fire, even if it be with half a date, and if he does not find that, then with a good word (he should try to save himself from the Fire).
