أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ بِسْطَامٍ بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ رَجُلٍ ، إِلا سَيُكَلِّمُهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ تُرْجُمَانٌ ، ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ أَيْمَنَ مِنْهُ ، فَلا يَرَى شَيْئًا قَدَّمَهُ ، ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ أَيْسَرَ مِنْهُ ، فَلا يَرَى شَيْئًا قَدَّمَهُ ، ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ تِلْقَاءَ وَجْهِهِ ، فَتَسْتَقْبِلُهُ النَّارُ " ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ : " فَمَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَقِيَ وَجْهَهُ النَّارَ ، وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : سَمِعَ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، وَسَمِعَهُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، رَوَى هَذَا الْخَبَرَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَهُوَ مِنْ أَعْلَمِ النَّاسِ بِحَدِيثِ الأَعْمَشِ بَعْدَ الثَّوْرِيِّ ، وَكَذَلِكَ وَكِيعٌ فِي وَصْلِهِ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، رَوَى قُطْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، وَجَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ فَالطَّرِيقَانِ جَمِيعًا صَحِيحَانِ .
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Exalted, will speak to each one of you on the Day of Resurrection, and there will be no interpreter between him and Allah. Then the person will look to his right, and he will see nothing except what he sent forth (i.e., any good deeds he did). Then he will look to his left, and he will see nothing except what he sent forth. Then he will look in front of him, and he will see the Fire before him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you can save his face from the Fire, let him do so—even if it is by giving half a date in charity."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration was heard by A‘mash from Khaythamah. He also heard this narration from Khaythamah through the authority of ‘Amr bin Murrah. This narration was transmitted by Abu Mu‘awiyah, and he is the most knowledgeable about the narrations of A‘mash after Thawri. Similarly, Waki‘ also transmitted it as a connected narration from A‘mash from Khaythamah. Qutbah bin ‘Abdul-‘Aziz and Jarir bin ‘Abdul-Hamid transmitted this narration from A‘mash from ‘Amr bin Murrah from Khaythamah, so both chains are authentic.
