Salim narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both): One of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met me. There was some stammer in his speech. His words were not clear. He mentioned Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, I do not know what he is saying. However, O group of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! You people know that in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we used to say that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) (then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said to that person: The matter you have mentioned) is only related to wealth. If he has given that wealth to that person, then you should be pleased with it. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Only Ishaq has narrated this narration from Waleed, and Thawr bin Yazid has narrated only this narration from Zuhri. Only Abdullah bin Muhammad has narrated this narration from Ishaq, and this narration is extremely rare.
Hadith 7251
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we used to consider Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) as superior to all other companions, and then we would remain silent.
