أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ بَكْرَ بْنَ سَوَادَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَلا قَوْلَ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلا فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ : إِنَّهُنَّ أَضْلَلْنَ كَثِيرًا مِنَ النَّاسِ فَمَنْ تَبِعَنِي فَإِنَّهُ مِنِّي وَمَنْ عَصَانِي فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ ، وَقَالَ عِيسَى : إِنْ تُعَذِّبْهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ عِبَادُكَ فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ أُمَّتِي أُمَّتِي " ، وَبَكَى ، فَقَالَ اللَّهُ : " يَا جِبْرِيلُ ، اذْهَبْ إِلَى مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ ، فَسَلْهُ مَا يُبْكِيهِ ؟ فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ ، فَسَأَلَهُ ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا قَالَ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ ، فَقَالَ اللَّهُ : يَا جِبْرِيلُ اذْهَبْ إِلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ، فَقُلْ : إِنَّا سَنُرْضِيكَ فِي أُمَّتِكَ وَلا نَسُوؤُكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited the statement of Allah regarding Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him). (Sayyiduna Ibrahim [peace be upon him] said:) "O my Lord! Indeed, they (the idols) have led many people astray. So whoever follows me, he is of me, and whoever disobeys me, then surely You are Most Forgiving, Most Merciful." (The statement of Allah is:) Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him) said: "If You punish them, they are Your servants."
(The narrator states:) The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised both his hands and supplicated: O Allah, (forgive) my Ummah, (forgive) my Ummah. So Allah Almighty said: O Jibreel! Go to Muhammad (the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] says) Your Lord knows best (but still He said): Ask him why he is weeping. So Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked him about it. Then Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) conveyed the Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reply to Allah Almighty, although Allah knows best. Allah Almighty said: O Jibreel! Go to Muhammad and say: We will please you regarding your Ummah. We will not disgrace you.
