أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ قَادِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جِبْرِيلُ أَوْ مَلَكٌ ، فَقَالَ : كَيْفَ أَهْلُ بَدْرٍ فِيكُمْ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هُمْ عِنْدَنَا أَفَاضِلُ النَّاسِ " ، قَالَ : وَكَذَلِكَ مَنْ شَهِدَ عِنْدَنَا مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : رَوَى هَذَا الْخَبَرَ جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، وَكَانَ أَبُوهُ وَجَدُّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعَقَبَةِ ، قَالَ : أَتَى جِبْرِيلُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ، وَسُفْيَانُ أَحْفَظُ مِنْ جَرِيرٍ وَأَتْقَنُ وَأَفْقَهُ ، كَانَ إِذَا حَفِظَ الشَّيْءَ لَمْ يُبَالِ بِمَنْ خَالَفَهُ .
Sayyiduna Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibreel (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps these are the words:) an angel came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: What is the status of the people of Badr among you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They are the most virtuous people in our view. So he said: The angels who participated in it have the same status among us.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: This narration has been transmitted by Jarir bin Abdul Hameed from Yahya bin Sa’eed from Mu’adh bin Rifaa’ah from his father. Both his father and his grandfather had the honor of participating in the Pledge of Aqabah. He narrates: Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Sufyan Thawri has narrated this narration from Yahya bin Sa’eed from ‘Abayah bin Rifaa’ah and from his grandfather Sayyiduna Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him).
Sufyan, compared to Jarir, is a greater memorizer of hadith, more precise, and a greater jurist, and when he remembers something, he does not care who has narrated words contrary to him.)
