Ibn Hibban

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "In comparison to other nations, your period is like the time between Asr and sunset. The example of you, the Jews, and the Christians is like that of a man who hires some laborers for work. That man says, 'Who will work for me until noon for one qirat each?' The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: So the Jews worked until noon for one qirat each. Then that man says, 'Who will work for me from noon until Asr for one qirat each?' The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: So the Christians worked from noon until Asr. Then that man says, 'Who will work for me from Asr prayer until sunset for two qirats each?' Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are the people who work from Asr until sunset for two qirats each. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: At this, the Jews and Christians became angry and said, 'We did more work and received less compensation.' The Lord said, 'Did I wrong you in regard to your work?' They replied, 'No.' So the Lord said, 'This is My grace; I bestow it upon whom I will.'"
