Hadith 7203
أَخْبَرَنَا
أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا
رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا
الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ التَّيْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا
الْمُثَنَّى الْعَبْدِيُّ أَبُو مُنَازِلٍ أَحَدُ بَنِي غَنْمٍ ، عَنِ
الأَشَجِّ الْعَصَرِيِّ أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رُفْقَةٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ لِيَزُورَهُ فَأَقْبَلُوا ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمُوا ، رَفَعَ لَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَنَاخُوا رِكَابَهُمْ ، فَابْتَدَرَ الْقَوْمُ ، وَلَمْ يَلْبَسُوا إِلا ثِيَابَ سَفَرِهِمْ ، وَأَقَامَ الْعَصَرِيُّ فَعَقَلَ رَكَائِبَ أَصْحَابِهِ وَبَعِيرَهُ ، ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَ ثِيَابَهُ مِنْ عَيْبَتِهِ وَذَلِكَ بِعَيْنِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ فِيكَ لَخَصْلَتَيْنِ يُحِبُّهُمَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ " ، قَالَ : مَا هُمَا ؟ قَالَ : " الأَنَاةُ ، وَالْحِلْمُ " ، قَالَ : شَيْءٌ جُبِلْتُ عَلَيْهِ أَوْ شَيْءٌ أَتَخَلَّقُهُ ؟ قَالَ : " لا بَلْ جُبِلْتَ عَلَيْهِ " ، قَالَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَعْشَرَ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ ، مَالِي أَرَى وجُوهَكُمْ قَدْ تَغَيَّرَتْ " ، قَالُوا : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، نَحْنُ بِأَرْضٍ وَخِمَةٍ ، كُنَّا نَتَّخِذُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الأَنْبِذَةِ مَا يَقْطَعُ اللُّحْمَانَ فِي بُطُونِنَا ، فَلَمَّا نُهِينَا عَنِ الظُّرُوفِ ، فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي تَرَى فِي وُجُوهِنَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الظُّرُوفَ لا تَحِلُّ وَلا تُحَرِّمُ ، وَلَكِنْ كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ ، وَلَيْسَ أَنْ تَحْبِسُوا فَتَشْرَبُوا ، حَتَّى إِذَا امْتَلأَتِ الْعُرُوقُ تَنَاحَرْتُمْ ، فَوَثَبَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى ابْنِ عَمِّهِ فَضَرَبَهُ بِالسَّيْفِ ، فَتَرَكَهُ أَعْرَجَ " ، قَالَ : وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْقَوْمِ الأَعْرَجُ الَّذِي أَصَابَهُ ذَلِكَ .
Sayyiduna Ashajj ‘Asari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He, along with some companions from the tribe of ‘Abd al-Qays, came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in order to visit him. When they arrived, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called them in a loud voice. They made their mounts sit down and quickly advanced towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people were wearing their travel clothes (i.e., which were not clean). Sayyiduna Ashajj ‘Asari (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed behind, tied up the camels of his companions, and took out clothes from his luggage. All of this was happening in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (after changing his clothes) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: “There are two qualities in you which Allah and His Messenger love.” He asked: “What are they?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Dignity and forbearance.” He said: “Are these qualities part of my nature or did I acquire them myself?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No, rather they are part of your nature.” So Sayyiduna Ashajj (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “All praise is due to Allah alone.”
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O people of the tribe of ‘Abd al-Qays, what is the reason that I see your faces changed?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, we live in a land that is not suitable for our health. We prepare nabidh (fermented drinks) which help digest the meat in our stomachs, but when we were forbidden from using (nabidh-making) vessels (and we stopped using nabidh), this is now our condition, which is visible on our faces.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Vessels do not make anything lawful or unlawful, but every intoxicant is unlawful. It cannot be that you drink wine, and when you have drunk it well, you confront one another, then someone attacks his cousin and strikes him with a sword, making him lame.”
The narrator says: At that time, among those present, there was a lame person with whom this situation had occurred.
