أَخْبَرَنَا ابن خزيمة ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ : يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَرْفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَكُمُ فَوْقَ صَوْتِ صَوْتِ النَّبِيِّ ، قَالَ ثَابِتُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ : أَنَا وَاللَّهِ الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَرْفَعُ صَوْتِي عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَنَا أَخْشَى أَنْ يَكُونَ اللَّهُ قَدْ غَضِبَ عَلَيَّ ، فَحَزِنَ وَاصْفَرَّ ، فَفَقَدَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ ، فَقِيلَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ يَقُولُ : إِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَرْفَعُ صَوْتِي عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " بَلْ هُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ " ، فَكُنَّا نَرَاهُ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When this verse was revealed, "O you who believe! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet," Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! I am the person whose voice becomes louder than the voice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so I fear that Allah will be angry with me for this. He became sad over this and his complexion turned pale. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed his absence and inquired about him. He was informed: O Messenger of Allah! He says that I fear I may become among the people of Hell because my voice becomes loud in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (No), rather he is among the people of Paradise. (Sayyiduna Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates) So we used to see him walking among us as a person of Paradise.
