Ibn Hibban

Khursha bin Har narrates: I was sitting in a circle in the mosque of Madinah Munawwarah. There was an elderly man present, who was very handsome. He was Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him). He started conversing with the people, and spoke excellently. When he got up, the people said: Whoever wants to see a person of Paradise should look at this gentleman. The narrator says: I thought, by Allah, I will definitely follow him and find out about his house. The narrator says: I started walking behind him. He proceeded until he entered his house near the farthest boundary of Madinah Munawwarah. I asked for permission to enter his place, and he granted me permission. He inquired: O my nephew, what do you need? I said: When you got up, I heard people saying that whoever wants to see a person of Paradise should look at this gentleman, so I liked the idea of being with you. He said: Allah Almighty knows best about the people of Paradise, but I will tell you about the thing that the people mentioned. Once I was asleep, a person came to me and said: Get up! He took my hand and I started walking. I saw a path on my left side, and I was about to go towards it, but that person said to me: Do not go towards it, for it is the path of the people of the left. Sayyiduna Abdullah says: Then I saw a path on my right side. That person said to me: Take this path. Then he took me to a mountain and said to me: Climb this. When I intended to climb it, I fell on my buttocks. I did this several times. Then that person went and brought a ladder for me, the upper end of which was in the sky and the lower end was on the earth. At its upper part was a ring. He said to me: Climb this. I said: How can I climb it when its end is in the sky? He took my hand and made me climb it, so I felt as if I was hanging with that ring. Then he struck the pillar, so it fell, and I remained hanging with that ring. When morning came, I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I narrated this incident to you, so you said: As for the path you saw on your left, it was the path of the people of the left, and as for the path you saw on your right, it was the path of the people of the right. And that mountain was the place of residence of the martyrs; you could not reach it. As for the pillar, it was the pillar of Islam. As for the rope, it was the rope of Islam. You will hold firmly to it until you die.

(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The correct word is "fazjal", but the narrator has transmitted it as "fazhal", i.e., with a "ha".
